Do the Worm!

Installation exhibited as part of Jess Stewart's, Do the Worm! show at Kudos Gallery, Paddington. Jess curated a 5 day worm symposium including worm hole talks, worm screenings, a showcase of worm inspired art and a worm dance tutorial. I foolishly volunteered to teach the worm dance class, luckily there were few attendees, and some much needed assistance from worm dancing pros on youtube.

 

Notorious D.I.G

Works exhibited as part of our Second Year SPI show at COFA, Notorious D.I.G. Managed to cram a multitude of quality works by our class into a very small space. Performed my new work, Housebound, on opening night, and managed to only spill one beer on the white robes used in the performance. Success all round. 

Mirazozo

Here are some photos of the Mirazozo project by the Architects of Air which is on at the Sydney Opera House all through January. The installation is a large scale, inflatable sculpture constructed of translucent vinyl and made up of labyrinthine tunnels and lofty domes. A sensual world of liquid light and colour, it is a multi-sensory space that welcomes, inspires and affects everyone who enters. All light and colour effects are from natural sunlight, and the structure itself is hand sewn by the Architects of Air artists. I highly recommend people check it out before it's packed off to another country!

 

Cosine presents: A Second Function

Second Cosine event at Pocket Bar, Darlinghurst this evening, courtesy of Mr. Costa Vakas. 6pm start. After last month's packed-out art extravaganza be sure to head down early to grab a free beer and some cut price fine art!

Cosine Vol. 3 Launch

On the 27th October, my friend Costa launched the third volume of his online zine, Cosine. The launch was held at Pocket Bar, Darlinghurst. Free Tigers were consumed in abundance and the bar reached capacity much more quickly than expected. I contributed some A3 prints of my Lovers series, posted on this blog a couple of months ago. Managed to sell all three, possibly due to their ultra low price...$20 a print. Bargain!

1st Year SPI student exhibition at COFA Space, Wednesday 6 October.

Here are some shots of my Primal Cavity work in action. Gallery visitors seemed to enjoy ensconcing themselves inside the womb room despite the humid conditions under the lighting system. Needless to say, with all the traffic the womb room interior was a tad on the nose by the end of the night. Some sort of ventilation system was suggested, a technical addition firmly out of my league.

High Steaks

Currently exhibiting at Polymorph Gallery, Enmore.

Photographic series focusing on the relationship between advertising and the meat/dairy/leather industry. Central to these sewn steaks is the concept of a ‘sacred cow’, i.e. something which cannot be tampered with, or criticised, for fear of public outcry. As a recently converted vegetarian, I decided to explore my concerns regarding industry practices through stitching ironic slogans into raw meat.  These images are intended to encourage the viewer to consider the link between their daily consumer choices and the source of these products.
